Able Writer's Day 2016

Able Writers' day

On Friday 22nd April, four of our Year 5 children were chosen to attend the 'Able Writer's Day' at Valley School. James Carter, a children's poet, provided a workshop for the children where they wrote poetry.

James Carter is one of the most high profile children’s poets in the UK today. He is an award winning poet and has published over fifteen hugely popular poetry books for children as well as six critically-acclaimed creative writing books for Primary and Secondary teachers.
His writers’ days aim to build confidence in writing and develop skills and creativities, giving quality time to the writing process and reflecting on key areas such as crafting, drafting and developing a piece of writing. Children are encouraged to work with a range of forms and stimuli and are shown how to write succinctly and expressively.

We have asked James to create a More Able Writers’ day for Years 5 and 6 to provide an inspiring poetry writing opportunity for our most able children.

Well done to the children who represented Manor Oak, their work was amazing and they made us all very proud.
